The CDC has identified a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to moringa leaf powder in dietary supplements. So far, 11 people across seven states have been infected with the same Salmonella strain, with three hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. Interviews and leftover product testing have identified supplement powders containing moringa leaf as the outbreak source.

FDA traceback found a single lot of organic moringa leaf powder imported from Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD in India as the origin. In response, Sam's Club has stopped sales of all lots of its Member's Mark Super Greens powdered supplements containing moringa leaf powder. The CDC warns that other products from this importer may also be added to the list as the investigation continues.

Consumers should not consume any Member's Mark Super Greens supplements with moringa leaf powder. Products should be disposed of or returned, and any surfaces or items they contacted should be thoroughly cleaned. Symptoms needing prompt medical attention include high fever over 102°F, prolonged diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, severe vomiting, and dehydration.

The CDC explains that Salmonella infection usually causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. Most people recover in 4 to 7 days without treatment, but children under 5, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for severe illness.
