NASA Earth Observatory has launched its May 2026 Satellite Puzzler, inviting the public to examine a satellite image and identify its location.
Participants are encouraged to share observed clues, suggest possible locations, and discuss what makes the place interesting or unique. Responses can be simple guesses or detailed comments about the satellite, the instrument, spectral bands, or notable geological and historical features visible in the image.
While there are no physical or monetary prizes, NASA offers recognition such as puzzler bragging rights. About a week after publication, the correct answer and a detailed story about the image are posted. The first correct respondent and especially thoughtful contributions may be highlighted by NASA.
Participants submit answers through a form specifying “Puzzler Answer” as the topic, and may include a preferred name or alias. NASA notes that submitted comments may be edited and published on their page.
