NASA’s Psyche mission has captured an enhanced-color image of Mars’ large double-ring Huygens crater, located near 15 degrees south latitude in the planet’s heavily cratered southern highlands. The crater measures about 290 miles (470 kilometers) in diameter.

The image, taken by the spacecraft’s multispectral imager on May 15, 2026, shortly after its closest approach to Mars, features a resolution of approximately 2,200 feet (670 meters) per pixel. Enhanced-color processing, using red, green, and blue imager filters, reveals color details beyond what the human eye can see, highlighting probable compositional differences in dust, sand, and bedrock in this ancient region.
