First Lady Melania Trump marked the 180-day milestone following the signing of the Fostering the Future Executive Order, highlighting achievements aimed at improving outcomes for youth in foster care. Among these is the creation of the Fostering the Future Fund, intended to ensure that up to $32 million in federal funds for foster and adoption services can be reallocated to support tailored services for youth aging out of care through the Chafee Foster Care Program.

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (HHS/ACF) launched a digital platform, FosteringTheFuture.Gov, to connect foster youth transitioning out of care with resources related to education, housing, and career development. This platform was shaped with input from youth with foster care experience and state child welfare officials through design sessions and roundtables.

The Foster Youth to Independence program was renamed in honor of First Lady Melania Trump and has supported over 1,400 housing vouchers nationwide since January 2025. This program received $30 million under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026, with funding proposed to continue in President Trump's Fiscal Year 2027 Budget.

Additionally, the First Lady participated in bipartisan legislative efforts to reform the Chafee Foster Care Program, focusing on expanding education and training support, increasing program flexibility, and enhancing access to workforce development. The House Ways and Means Committee approved six related pieces of legislation with bipartisan support in April 2026.

Furthermore, the Trump Administration urged states to prevent the diversion of Social Security survivor benefits away from foster youth after the loss of a parent. Letters sent in December 2025 prompted nine states to respond, highlighting efforts to protect these benefits.
